About The Position

Daifuku Airport America Corporation, a subsidiary of Daifuku North America and part of the global Daifuku group, is the world's largest material handling company. We specialize in engineering, manufacturing, and servicing innovative automated material handling systems for various industries, including airports, automotive plants, and warehouses. We are currently seeking a Controls Field Engineer to provide onsite expertise for the operation of the Baggage Handling System (BHS) at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA). This role involves supporting the operational and maintenance teams, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring the smooth functioning of Daifuku's advanced BHS at SEA, where we have delivered and are currently delivering multiple large-scale systems.

Requirements

  • BSEE, E.T. or relevant technical degree, or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment for system design and production.
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Critical Thinking: Using logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Judgment and Decision Making: Considering relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate course.

  • Remain stationary for 50% of the time; move/traverse throughout the office to access file cabinets and office equipment; operate a computer and other productivity machinery; inspect documents; communicate with others through talking/hearing; read/identify/assess forms and correspondence.
  • While on job sites, must be able to walk airports and plants and remain standing for most of the shift.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of experience in industrial automation controls design and commissioning.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley PLC ControlLogix programming.
  • Experience with material handling equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide onsite expertise for operating the BHS along with the operational and maintenance teams.
  • Interpret electrical/PLC control systems including device/layout drawings, motor control panel drawings, and wiring schematics.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting of PLC based hardware and software.
  • Understand control system functionalities.
  • Configure (for replacements), troubleshoot, and repair sensors, scanners, visualization systems, motors, frequency inverters, and encoders.
  • Be available for peak times, weekends, nights, or holidays as required by the customer.
  • Provide BHS startup and operations support.
  • Make programming modifications when requested or as needed.
  • Monitor BHS health and make changes as needed.
  • Work with the Port of Seattle maintenance team and provide system improvement recommendations.
  • Coordinate and elevate BHS concerns and changes with Daifuku’s home office engineering team.
  • Provide after hours, weekends and holiday phone/remote support for up to 10 hours per month.
