About The Position

At BWI, we are looking for a Controls Engineer for our Warren, MI plant. The Controls Engineer will support the maintenance department by assisting in the troubleshooting of equipment issues, which includes troubleshooting PLC ladder logic and data handling functions in Control Logix processors. They will maintain PLC documentation upon receipt from equipment suppliers and an archive of PLC programs and machine controls drawings in an electronic and/or paper format and throughout the facility. The role involves maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving automated equipment including devices, I/O, instruments, and all other components associated with automated processes to meet production and safety goals. The engineer will support various I/O devices connected to PLCs, such as HMIs, scanners, remote I/O, sensors, relays, solenoids, and servo drives, and will assist maintenance personnel in troubleshooting pneumatic circuits. This position aims to improve equipment uptime and contribute to plant reliability maintenance. The engineer will schedule and complete backups of all electronic machine control and robotic programs on a set schedule and develop and maintain Preventive Maintenance Programs. The role requires the ability to diagnose problems with hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems interfacing with electrical and electronic systems, and to apply knowledge of electronic and instrumentation principles to determine equipment malfunctions and restore equipment to operation. They will implement and maintain a data collection system from plant floor processing equipment, identify and implement error-proofing requirements throughout the production process, and be part of a multi-disciplinary Plant Team to determine continuous improvement strategies. The engineer will identify and plan for process impacts resulting from engineering and launch changes and participate in 8D or similar root-cause based problem-solving tasks to ensure abnormalities are acted upon to resolve root causes. They will also contribute to specifications for equipment purchases, including reviewing and commenting on equipment controls drawings prior to build approval.

Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering/Electrical field preferred, or equivalent additional experience
  • 5-7 years related Controls Engineering manufacturing experience; automotive experience preferred
  • Allen Bradley PLC's experience is a must
