About The Position

Wunderlich-Malec Engineering (WM) is a 100% employee-owned ESOP and one of the largest and most well-established engineering companies in the United States. This Controls Engineer position is located in Eden Prairie and will be responsible for controls engineering project requirements involving control system design, control panel design, PLC programming, instrumentation, check-out support, and start-up assistance. The role involves working on automation and control system integration projects for clients across multiple industries, including manufacturing production lines and data center building automation. The engineer will act as a technical lead on projects, guiding lower-level engineers and technicians, and may also serve as Project Manager on smaller projects.

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering (Electrical Engineering is preferred).
  • Three to Ten years of experience in control systems, components, logic programming, instrumentation, and controls design.
  • In-depth understanding of control systems, components, logic programming, experience with instrumentation, and controls design.
  • SCADA (i.e. Rockwell, Inductive Automation, AVEVA Wonderware) and PLC systems (i.e. Allen Bradley, Siemens) required.
  • Strong inter-personnel skills.
  • Ability to communicate and work with team members, subcontractors, and clients.
  • Ability to travel up to 30%.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with DeltaV, AutoCAD, Fanuc, Keyence/Cognex Vision Systems are also desired.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, and implements control system (logic software and hardware) to meet process system requirements.
  • Develops schematics detailing control system configuration and wiring, and designs equipment panel layouts on AutoCAD software.
  • Develops Sequence of Operation document detailing control strategies for the process under control.
  • Leads design reviews with customers for review and approval of design documents.
  • Works at customer sites to perform system checkout and start-up of the integrated control system.
  • Develops final record system documentation and provides system training to the customer.
  • Acts as technical lead on projects and guides lower-level engineers and technicians.
  • Acts as Project Manager on smaller projects ranging from $50K to $250K, including developing and executing implementation plans, assigning work, ensuring clear understanding of scope, developing schedules, evaluating progress, detailing changes, and managing purchasing and subcontractor requirements.
  • Responsible for the development of costs and proposal of change orders to contract scope.
