About The Position

International Wire, a Pantheon Electric company and leading manufacturer of copper wire products, is seeking a Controls & Automation Engineer – PLC/HMI to join our team in Camden, NY. This position will play a key role in the design, programming, commissioning, and ongoing technical support of automated manufacturing equipment and control systems across International Wire operations. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience with PLCs, HMIs, industrial automation, electrical controls, and manufacturing equipment, along with the ability to manage multiple projects from design through startup. This role is based in Camden, NY and requires up to 25% travel to other company locations, including occasional overnight travel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant electrical controls, automation, or manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Experience programming and troubleshooting PLC and HMI systems.
  • Knowledge of Allen-Bradley controls strongly preferred.
  • Experience with industrial drives, motors, instrumentation, and electrical control systems.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Familiarity with the National Electrical Code and industrial machine safety standards.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across engineering, maintenance, production, contractors, and leadership teams.

  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical and machine control systems for manufacturing equipment.
  • Size and select variable frequency drives, harmonic filters, motors, motor starters, overcurrent protection devices, PLCs, HMIs, meters, and other control components.
  • Develop and maintain electrical drawings and control system documentation using AutoCAD.
  • Read, interpret, and develop wiring diagrams and electrical schematics.
  • Ensure designs align with applicable electrical codes and machine safety standards.
  • Program, configure, and troubleshoot Allen-Bradley, General Electric, and other PLC and HMI platforms.
  • Develop well-organized and documented programs that support the complete sequence of operations for manufacturing equipment.
  • Support control systems for wire manufacturing equipment including drawing machines, annealers, spoolers, electroplaters, bunchers, stranders, payoffs, and other production equipment.
  • Program and integrate auxiliary systems and controls including cooling water, emulsion, quench, waste treatment, meters, and related manufacturing systems.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize PLC, HMI, drive, and control system performance.
  • Manage the electrical controls portion of new equipment installations, upgrades, and startups.
  • Generate wire pull lists for control and power wiring.
  • Size, select, and specify conduit, fittings, wire, and other electrical materials required for installation.
  • Coordinate work with electrical and mechanical contractors, vendors, engineering teams, maintenance teams, and plant personnel.
  • Conduct pre-power system checks and safely power up new equipment and control systems.
  • Verify proper operation of electrical devices and controls.
  • Program, test, troubleshoot, and debug PLCs, HMIs, drives, and supporting control systems.
  • Support equipment startup through full production readiness.
  • Train operators, maintenance teams, managers, and other employees on the proper operation of equipment and control systems.
  • Provide hands-on technical support to maintenance, engineering, and operations teams to help maintain continuous equipment operation.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, automation, PLC, HMI, drive, and control system issues.
  • Identify opportunities to upgrade or replace obsolete control systems and components.
  • Support equipment reliability, process improvements, and manufacturing automation initiatives.
  • Partner with plant teams to resolve equipment issues and minimize production downtime.
