About The Position

Qualified Health is an AI native company focused on transforming healthcare with Generative AI. They are building their internal operations intentionally and are seeking a startup-focused Controller. This role requires a strong understanding of GAAP fundamentals, strategic thinking, and a builder's mindset. The Controller will be responsible for the integrity of the financial close, the accuracy of financial data, and the infrastructure that ensures trustworthy and useful numbers for leadership, investors, and auditors. The position emphasizes a hands-on approach to building lean, durable, and scalable financial infrastructure, with a strategic focus on automation and efficiency.

Requirements

  • 6-10 years of accounting or controllership experience, ideally including time at a high-growth startup.
  • Foundation in public accounting or audit.
  • Mastery of accounting fundamentals and compliance as a company scales.
  • Deep familiarity with ASC 606 in a SaaS or recurring revenue context.
  • Experience building for diligence (venture, strategic, or audit).
  • Ability to design lean, well-documented processes and resist unnecessary complexity.
  • Collaborative and transparent communication style, proactive in identifying and addressing issues.
  • Trusted partner to FP&A and the business.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA strongly preferred.
  • Experience with the accounting implications of variable or performance-based compensation structures.
  • Experience with Brex and expense reconciliation.

Responsibilities

  • Own the monthly and quarterly close process end-to-end, ensuring speed, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage treasury functions, including banking, runway, and cash controls.
  • Maintain GAAP-compliant financial statements with thorough documentation suitable for audits, investor diligence, and leadership reporting.
  • Oversee revenue recognition, with specific experience in SaaS models.
  • Manage employee payroll in partnership with People Operations.
  • Process vendor and contractor payments, and manage related cash impacts like accruals and employer taxes.
  • Maintain and manage the "actuals" infrastructure, including tools like Brex and expense reconciliation.
  • Collaborate with the Head of FP&A to establish a feedback loop between forecasts and actuals, analyzing variances and identifying risks.
  • Lead relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and accounting firms.
  • Support board reporting and investor diligence with organized and clearly documented financials.
  • Evaluate and maintain accounting systems and tooling, making strategic decisions about build vs. buy.
