About The Position

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented leader to join our team as our Controller. This role oversees all accounting functions and leads the accounting team, providing coaching, development, and day‑to‑day people leadership while maintaining a hands‑on presence in project financial performance. The Controller is responsible for the integrity of the Company’s financial reporting and serves as a key partner to operations, supporting sound decision‑making across construction projects. This position plays a critical role in managing the company’s finances, including budgeting, regulatory compliance, and financial analysis, and delivers financial insights that support growth and operational efficiency across the organization. Success in this role requires strong people leadership capabilities, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of accounting principles and best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
  • 10 years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting systems and experience in implementation and/or conversion of account systems preferred.
  • Proficient at Excel and MS Product Suite
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day‑to‑day accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and job cost accounting
  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures to ensure accuracy and consistency
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and long‑range financial planning processes
  • Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and treasury‑related activities
  • Ensure compliance with tax filings, licensing, bonding, insurance, and regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate closely with Operations, Project Management, Leadership, and People & Culture
  • Provide training and guidance to Project Managers on financial processes, job cost reporting, and pay application review
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering accountability and professional development
  • Support continuous improvement of accounting systems, job cost processes, and reporting tools
  • Serve as a financial partner to Project Managers, providing guidance on job costing, projections, WIP, and cost‑to‑complete analysis
  • Oversee and review job cost reports to ensure costs, commitments, and change orders are accurate and timely
  • Actively participate in WIP reviews and project forecast discussions with Operations and Leadership
  • Ensure subcontractor pay applications are reviewed and processed in accordance with contract terms, approved scope, and project progress
  • Monitor and support proper processing of subcontractor and owner change orders to protect margin and cash flow
  • Assist in identifying cost trends, risks, and opportunities at the project level
