About The Position

The Controller will serve as a key member of The Legacy Utility Group leadership team, responsible for overseeing all financial and accounting operations for Legacy Utility Group and its subsidiary companies Jaeger Vacuum Excavation, ECS and Guardian Traffic Solutions. This role is critical to ensuring financial integrity, driving operational efficiency, and supporting the company’s growth objectives. The Controller will lead a team of accounting professionals while maintaining compliance with all regulatory requirements and company policies. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s degree or MBA preferred)
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Designation required
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role
  • Demonstrated experience with financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
  • Proven success managing audits, tax filings, and regulatory compliance
  • Hands-on experience overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions
  • Experience supporting mergers and acquisitions, including financial due diligence and integration
  • In-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling capabilities to support operational decision-making
  • Proficiency with accounting systems and ERP software (e.g., Sage, NetSuite, or similar platforms)
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including financial analysis and reporting functions
  • Experience designing and implementing internal controls, automation, and process improvements
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop accounting teams in a high-performance culture
  • Ability to set clear goals, provide feedback, and support team growth and development
  • Effective cross-functional collaboration with department heads and executive leadership
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence decision-making at all organizational levels
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to explain complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines in a dynamic environment

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Set clear goals and expectations for the team, providing regular feedback and development opportunities.
  • Prepare and manage accurate and timely financial statements, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Coordinate and manage audits, tax filings, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain and enforce internal controls to ensure compliance with financial regulations and safeguard company assets.
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
  • Monitor and manage cash flow to support operational needs and long-term strategies.
  • Support operational decisions by providing financial analysis and modeling for various projects and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the CFO and senior leadership to provide strategic financial insights that align with the company’s objectives.
  • Ensure the proper management of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions.
  • Evaluate and implement systems, processes, and controls to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of financial operations.
  • Partner with department leaders to provide financial insights and drive cost efficiencies.
  • Support mergers, acquisitions, and other growth initiatives with due diligence and integration planning.
  • Identify and mitigate financial risks while exploring opportunities for revenue growth and profitability improvement.
