About The Position

The Controller provides accounting oversight of the finance department for a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) with a 65M+ annual budget. Maintains the integrity of the general ledger by applying appropriate accounting theory and knowledge to all aspects of work. Directly supervises the payroll, accounts payable, and general accounting functions. Manage monthly closes, audits, Grant accounting, and financial reporting. Ensures compliance with GAAP, HRSA requirements, Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200) and federal/state regulations Authority: Responsible to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting and supervisory experience
  • Proven leadership experience managing a finance business office
  • Knowledge of all applicable Federal, State and Local laws

Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting and Close Process Oversees monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, communicates results directly to the CFO
  • Ensure accuracy of Balance sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flows
  • Manage month end close process for accounts payable and GL
  • Prepare reports for leadership, board, and auditors
  • Reviews and verifies the accuracy of journal entries and account analysis prepared by other accounting staff, review all general ledger trial balances and review all accounts
  • Payroll and cash management
  • Budgeting and Financial Planning Lead annual budget process across departments
  • Track actual vs. budget performance variances
  • Build forecasts tied to patient volume, payer mix, and patient visits
  • Translating complex financial data for non-financial staff
  • Revenue Cycle Monitor billing and collections partnering with revenue cycle team
  • Ensure proper capture of PPS encounters (Medicaid/Medicare) and sliding fee scale adjustments
  • Track KPI’s, Days in A/R, collection rate, denial trends, etc.
  • Effectively perform, oversee and/or approve cash account reconciliations on a monthly basis, assuring accuracy of cash balances
  • Grant Revenue Cost Reporting and Reimbursement
  • Oversee the preparation of the Medicare cost report
  • Ensure compliance with the Prospective Payment System (PPS)
  • Optimize reimbursement tied to visit types and provider credentials
  • Quarterly Medicare/Medicaid Wrap around reports
  • Accounts Payable and Payroll Oversight
  • Supervise and oversight of vendor payments, expense coding, and payroll accuracy
  • Ensure proper allocation across cost centers, grants, and other programs
  • Establish procedures and controls for the accurate processing of accounts payable, payroll, and accounting functions
  • Team Leadership & Development
  • Supervise accounting staff (AP, payroll, senior account), providing coaching, performance management, and professional development.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the finance department.
  • Evaluate staffing models, workflows, and technology to ensure scalability and efficiency
