About The Position

Made In is the leader in the digitally-native kitchen space. We bring chef expertise and centuries-old cookware manufacturing techniques to craft professional-quality kitchen tools for the home and professional cook. Backed by some of the world's best chefs, we've been featured in the TODAY Show, NY Times, Fast Company, Business Insider, and more. To support our rapid growth, we're seeking a Controller to lead our accounting function and serve as a critical financial partner to our leadership team. Reporting to the CFO/COO, you will own the close process, lead a high-performing team, and serve as the connective tissue between accounting, FP&A, and our technology and operations functions. This role sits at the intersection of technical excellence, operational discipline, and people leadership - and is based in our Austin, TX headquarters.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including time in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role.
  • Deep NetSuite proficiency - you know it well and can help us get more out of it.
  • Experience in high-growth environments, particularly ecommerce-driven businesses with cloud-based tech stacks.
  • Track record of leveraging AI tools to modernize and optimize accounting systems and workflows
  • Inventory accounting expertise in a CPG or product-based business is required.
  • Familiarity with owned fulfillment operations, labor tracking, and P&L allocations across facilities.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Multi-entity consolidation experience preferred.
  • Experience owning the accounting function during later stage fundraising rounds (Series B+) or M&A activity is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and hold accountable a lean but mighty team, including two Senior Accountants and two globally distributed teammates owning AP and AR.
  • Delegate effectively and leverage team capacity to its fullest.
  • Build a culture of ownership, accuracy, and continuous improvement across the accounting function.
  • Coach and develop staff with a genuine investment in their growth and long-term careers.
  • Own and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close calendar - reducing time to close while hitting deadlines consistently and holding the team to a high standard.
  • Ensure the integrity of all financial statements, general ledger activity, and supporting schedules.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, account analyses, and variance explanations.
  • Support external audit requests and manage relationships with audit and tax advisors.
  • Deliver clean, timely financials (consolidated and channel-level) that inform key executive decision-making.
  • Build infrastructure that scales in both a multi-entity and multi-currency environment.
  • Serve as a strong link between accounting and FP&A, ensuring the close process feeds directly into financial targets, forecasts, and reporting rhythms.
  • Stay closely attuned to where actuals track against plan and proactively surface variances and implications in partnership with FP&A.
  • Tightly manage labor/overhead allocations across our fulfillment network.
  • Own inventory accounting including costing, reserves, shrink, and reconciliation.
  • Lead and continuously improve the order-to-cash process, including revenue recognition, AR oversight, collections, and cash application.
  • Manage contra revenue treatments (discounts, credits, rebates) and ensure completeness and accuracy across channels including Ecomm, Amazon, and wholesale.
  • Partner closely with our technology team to strengthen our NetSuite environment, integrations, and inventory accounting infrastructure.
  • Champion automation and process improvement initiatives from AI-assisted workflows to system upgrades - that increase close efficiency and reporting quality.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and process documentation as we scale.
  • Build trusted relationships across the organization - with Operations, FP&A, Technology, and channel sales leaders - to stay connected to the business and drive better financial outcomes.
  • Actively manage expenses and hold vendors and internal partners accountable to budgets.
  • Support the CFO/COO on board reporting, fundraising diligence, and M&A-related financial activity as needed.
