About The Position

My client is a well-established commercial GC construction company looking for an experienced Controller to lead their accounting function. This is a hands-on role for someone who takes real pride in accuracy — you'll oversee a small accounting team while staying close to the day-to-day details of payroll, AP/AR, financials, and insurance.

Requirements

5+ years of accounting experience with a Commercial GC (not sub)
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
Prior experience leading a team
Strong grasp of WIP reporting, job costing, and backlog analysis
Authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future visa sponsorship

Responsibilities

Oversee payroll processing, including timecards, workers' compensation, 401(k), quarterly/year-end reporting, and new hire/new-year setup.
Manage accounts payable, including checks, lien releases, 1099s, vendor setup, and credit card management.
Handle accounts receivable, including billing, invoice tracking and follow-up, deposits, monthly close, and reporting.
Perform banking and cash flow reconciliations and cash management.
Manage financial closing processes, including year-end close, WIP reporting, job costing, backlog analysis, journal entries, and collaboration with an outside CPA firm.
Oversee insurance renewals, COIs, audits, workers' compensation, general liability, and compliance.
Lead and manage a small accounting staff (3 direct reports).
