About The Position

The Controller will play a critical leadership role within a large, multi-property management organization, overseeing all aspects of accounts payable and property-level accounting operations. This position is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, and partnering closely with operations teams to drive effective financial solutions and support business objectives across the portfolio.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • 5 years’ accounting experience including managerial
  • Intermediate MS Excel skills and experience with accounting business systems
  • Analysis and problem-solving
  • Dealing with or managing people
  • Strategic thinking and business acumen
  • Process improvement mindset
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to collaborate across finance and operations

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the day-to-day accounting operations for a portfolio of multi-family properties, including general ledger, month-end close, and financial reporting.
  • Oversee and optimize the accounts payable function to ensure timely and accurate processing of invoices, vendor payments, and expense allocations.
  • Review consolidated and property-level financial statements and variance analysis.
  • Assist with year-end close process and preparation for annual tax and financial reporting.
  • Supervise property accountants, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and timeliness of financial data.
  • Ensure compliance with company accounting policies across all properties.
  • Maintain strong internal controls over property financial processes.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff, fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Establish clear goals and accountability for team members.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to promote alignment and efficiency across departments.
  • Drive continuous improvement in accounting workflows, automation, and reporting capabilities.
  • Act as a strategic partner to operations leadership, providing actionable insights to support decision-making.
