Controller - VC Backed Startups
About The Position
Join SignalFire’s Talent Network for Controllers at VC-Backed Startups. We are looking to connect with Controllers who have experience owning accounting operations, implementing scalable systems, and partnering cross-functionally to support rapid growth. Requirements
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2+ years in a Controller or Assistant Controller role
- Prior experience in a venture-backed startup or high-growth environment
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, revenue recognition (ASC 606), and compliance frameworks
- Experience managing audits and working with external accounting firms
- Proficiency with accounting and ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks, Ramp, Bill.com)
- CPA certification strongly preferred
- Background in SaaS, fintech, or technology sectors is a plus

- Skilled at developing and maintaining scalable accounting systems and controls
- Comfortable leading audits, compliance, and financial reporting processes
- Excited to partner with leadership to guide financial decisions and enable growth
Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of accounting operations, including GL, AR/AP, payroll, and revenue recognition
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness
- Lead external audits and coordinate with external tax and audit partners
- Implement and optimize financial systems, processes, and internal controls
- Partner with FP&A, Legal, and Operations to align financial data with company goals
- Prepare GAAP-compliant financial statements and board reporting packages
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and scenario planning in collaboration with finance leadership
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements
- Build, mentor, and manage small accounting teams as the company scales
