About The Position

United Chemical Technology (UCT) was founded in 1986 by one of the pioneers of Solid Phase Extraction (SPE), Michael Telepchak, who is still active in the Company and continues to works with our team of talented chemist in our research and development department. UCT is a major competitor in the field of silica based extraction technology and silane manufacturing. We are seeking a Controller to manage our Finance Department and partner with our Executive Team to help grow the UCT brand. The controller will be responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, budgeting support, and compliance functions within the organization. This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial data, manages accounting staff, and provides strategic financial insights to support business decision-making.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree (or equivalent) in Accounting or Finance.
  • 6-10 years of accounting/finance experience, including 3+ years in a leadership role
  • Analyze accounting standards to determine the impact to UCT either as a whole or by legal entity.
  • Managerial experience in a manufacturing and/or laboratory environment is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work on and complete several projects concurrently.
  • Experience with Sage ERP system is highly desirable.
  • CPA designation strongly preferred
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting and internal controls

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day functions of the accounting department.
  • Overall responsibility for all personnel in the finance department and daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and bank reconciliations.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce financial policies and controls to protect company assets and prevent fraud.
  • Manage finance/accounting tasks in Sage.
  • Collaborate with management team to create annual budgets and report on financial variances.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
  • Manage the preparation of the state/local taxes in conjunction with companies’ accounting firm.
  • Coordinate internal and external audits, ensure tax compliance at the local, state, and federal levels, and manage risk.
  • Work with the President of the Company to identify and implement best practices for the finance department.
  • Prepare, review and publish monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP or other applicable accounting standards.
  • Analyze financial results and provide recommendations to senior leadership on trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Monitor cash flow, working capital, and financial performance metrics.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop accounting team members to improve department performance and efficiency.
  • Support ERP/accounting system improvements, automation initiatives, and process optimization.
