About The Position

Genoa Design International (Genoa) is hiring a Controller to join our dynamic Finance & Accounting Team in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland. As a Controller, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and efficiency of Genoa’s financial operations. You will oversee the full accounting cycle, managing day-to-day financial, treasury, and accounting functions, while leading the development of annual budgets and financial reporting. With a strong emphasis on internal controls and operational excellence, you’ll support strategic decision-making and champion continuous improvement across financial practices.

Requirements

Degree or diploma in Finance/Accounting with 10+ years, post CPA attainment, experience in finance and accounting.
In-depth understanding of ASPE financial reporting requirements.
Advanced Microsoft Office skills, specifically in Excel and PowerPoint.
High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons or facts.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills to attend and conduct presentations.
Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures.
Ability to work under pressure using time management and prioritize to meet set deadlines.
Candidates must be either a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada.
Obtaining security clearance may be a requirement for this position, and as part of the process, the successful candidate will undergo a background check and personal reference verification.

Responsibilities

Oversee the revenue recognition process across multiple projects in both Canadian and U.S. currencies, including the review of schedules for Work in Progress (WIP) and Deferred Revenue.
Evaluate and strengthen internal financial controls and processes; identify areas for improvement and implement new controls to mitigate risk.
Enhance internal financial reports and dashboards to support informed decision-making.
Participate in operational meetings and assist with the execution of Genoa’s broader organizational strategy.
Provide strategic analysis and recommendations to support financial performance.
Present and communicate financial insights to members of the executive team.
Oversee the annual audit process, leading communication and coordination with external auditors.
Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
Manage the preparation of quarterly Board reports.
Review annual corporate tax filings, offer support on corporate tax issues, and oversee compliance with tax and regulatory requirements.
Collaborate with the CFO to coordinate Genoa’s financial planning, budgeting, and reforecasting efforts.
Mentor, support, and manage the performance and professional development of the Finance and Accounting Team.
Taking on additional duties as required to support the Finance & Accounting Team and organization.
