About The Position

Cape Fear Academy (CFA) is seeking a Full-Time Controller to join their learning community. CFA is a PK3-12 independent school in Wilmington, NC, dedicated to discovering and developing individual potential for success in college and life. The school emphasizes academics, arts, and athletics, supported by state-of-the-art facilities and a committed faculty and staff who foster core values of respect, integrity, resilience, and accountability. This position is responsible for providing support for assigned accounting functions and supervising the Accounts Receivable Accounting Specialist, the Accounts Payable Accounting Specialist, and the Payroll and Finance Specialist.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication, mathematical skills, and organization skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively and meet multiple deadlines on a regular basis.
  • Experience in processing payroll and familiarity with online payroll systems.
  • Experience with bank and general ledger account reconciliations with online software systems.
  • Excellent customer service and public relations skills.
  • Excellent critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
  • Excellent computer and keyboarding skills.
  • A minimum of 5 years of accounting and payroll experience.
  • Proficiency in the use of accounting and payroll software systems.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining the General Ledger and all associated modules.
  • Processing monthly journal entries, monthly bank reconciliations, and general ledger account reconciliations.
  • Managing fixed assets and budget.
  • Providing financial support and reports for campus events and other departments.
  • Reconciling school credit cards.
  • Annual preparation of enrollment contracts and posting tuition charges for the upcoming school year.
  • Maintaining payroll records and leave reports, and preparing associated reports.
  • Assisting with the annual audit, including required reconciliations and reports.
  • Maintaining off-campus document storage.
  • Updating Financial Aid reports with information provided by FACTS.
  • Supervising the Accounts Receivable Accounting Specialist, Accounts Payable Accounting Specialist, and the Payroll and Accounting Specialist.
  • Preparation and input of all survey reporting data to external agencies.
  • Taking minutes at finance, insurance, facilities, and investment committee meetings.
  • Performing other projects and duties as assigned.
