About The Position
We are seeking an experienced Controller to oversee the accounting and financial operations of a private golf and tennis club with approximately $7 million in annual operations. This individual will be the senior accounting leader and will work closely with the General Manager, Finance Committee, Board, and department leaders. The role combines hands-on accounting leadership with budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, internal controls, cash management, and operational support across the organization.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline
- Approximately 5–10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and internal controls
- Advanced Excel skills and experience working with ERP/accounting systems
- Ability to analyze and consolidate information from multiple data sources
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with both operational leaders and senior management
Nice To Haves
- CPA, CMA, or MBA is a plus
- Previous experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, CFO, or senior-level accounting professional preferred
- Experience within a country club, hospitality, resort, restaurant, or membership-based organization is helpful but not required
- Power BI experience is a plus
Responsibilities
- Oversee all day-to-day accounting functions, including general ledger, AP, AR, payroll, cash activity, reconciliations, and member billing
- Manage the monthly close and preparation of financial statements and management reporting
- Review operating results, identify trends, and explain significant budget-to-actual variances
- Lead the annual operating and capital budgeting process
- Develop financial forecasts and assist with longer-term financial planning
- Partner with department leaders to monitor spending and improve financial performance
- Provide financial oversight for golf, tennis/paddle, food & beverage, events, clubhouse operations, grounds, membership, and facilities
- Monitor major cost areas including labor, inventory, purchasing, food, and beverage
- Manage cash flow, liquidity, and banking relationships
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls, purchasing procedures, segregation of duties, and cash-handling processes
- Monitor member receivables and collections
- Track capital spending against approved budgets and maintain appropriate fixed-asset and depreciation accounting
- Coordinate the annual audit/review and work directly with the outside CPA firm
- Prepare financial packages for the General Manager, Finance Committee, and Board of Directors
- Provide financial analysis related to dues, fees, staffing, capital investments, and other major business decisions
