About The Position

COPE Health Solutions (CHS) is seeking a Controller to lead the Accounting function in support of CHS and its various platform products and solutions, including its subsidiary Analytics for Risk Contracting (ARC). The Controller’s primary responsibility will be to ensure that all accounting operations and deliverables are processed on time, accurately, and in an efficient manner. The Controller will provide functional day-to-day leadership of the Accounting team. The Controller will closely monitor CHS’ financial health by maintaining, managing, and analyzing the firm’s financial statements, general accounting, A/R, A/P, cash, payroll, audit/tax compliance, and more. The Controller will also seek out opportunities to improve systems, streamline processes, add value internally and externally, and educate/collaborate with all employees to improve overall operations. The ideal candidate must be able to thrive in a fast-paced organization and must be able to adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic working environment. CHS is at a pivotal point in its growth trajectory to organize people, processes, and tools across the firm. The Controller will play a critical role as the company continues to grow by being an extension of CHS’ CFO and having a pulse on the financial performance of all areas within the firm.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA required
  • Minimum 5-10 years of experience in finance and accounting required, experience within a professional services setting preferred
  • Strong GAAP and financial reporting technical skills
  • Well-developed and professional interpersonal skills and a positive, high-energy attitude
  • Exceptional work ethic and conscientious about timeliness and quality of work product
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead a team
  • Ability to organize/handle multiple tasks and maintain control over same to provide quality deliverables and meet deadlines
  • Comfort in working independently and in a collaborative environment
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Extensive hands-on experience with accounting software required (preferably direct experience with Sage Intacct or similar software)
  • Extensive experience with and extremely high level of proficiency with Excel
  • Full-time presence in the company’s LA office

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, management and supervision of direct reports in the Finance and Accounting department. Provide teaching, mentoring and staff development, or ensure the provision of these through the appropriate resources
  • Ensure timely completion and review of the monthly close process including an analytical review of the monthly operating results to ensure accurate accounting records are properly maintained
  • Ensure accurate and timely production of all financial reports
  • Serve as the accounting subject matter expert within the organization on such topics as revenue recognition, product development costs, reserves and release of accruals, and equity related matters
  • Ensure that all transactions are recorded in compliance with GAAP, and financial statements are properly presented
  • Liaise with FP&A team members as needed to provide information for forecasting, budgeting, financial analyses and decision support.
  • Ensure accounting files and records are complete and maintained in an orderly fashion
  • Implement, document and maintain adequate and effective internal controls for all finance processes
  • Drive forward policies and procedures that support a strong balance sheet, such as invoice processing, cash management, and vendor processing
  • Tighten and improve the monthly close and reporting cycles.
  • Oversee all aspects of our annual audit; work directly with the external auditors for accounting and audit matters. Provide schedules and documents related to the external audit of the Company's financial statements
  • Be the point of contact for all income and payroll tax compliance matters, including all federal and state returns (prepared by a third party) as well as all county, city, and sales tax compliance
  • Develop internal and external communications and reports as needed
  • Attend company events, functions, conferences and meetings with individuals/small groups as necessary
  • Ensure employees are properly trained with an understanding of Finance and Accounting policies and procedures
  • Liaise with employees and team leads to ensure understanding of finance policies and procedures, taking feedback and recommendations into consideration
  • Carry out other duties, tasks and projects as assigned
