About The Position

Royal Credit Union is seeking an experienced accounting leader to serve as their Controller and lead the controllership function. The role involves building and overseeing an operating model that produces trusted financial information, integrating accounting operations, financial reporting, policy, controls, regulatory reporting, systems, and financial data into a consistent and scalable framework. The Controller will establish clear ownership and standards, strengthen accounting quality and audit readiness, develop the accounting team, and partner across the organization to ensure accounting requirements are integrated into business decisions and organizational changes. Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related business discipline.
Five (5) years of progressive accounting experience.
Three (3) years of financial institution or financial services accounting experience.
One (1) year of leadership and/or leadership development and training.
Experience preparing and reviewing financial statements.
Must be bondable and maintain that status throughout employment.

Responsibilities

Lead Royal’s controllership operating model, translating accounting strategy into an integrated system of ownership, processes, controls, financial data, and management routines that produces reliable results and scales with Royal’s growth.
Own financial reporting integrity and accounting quality, governing the close, financial statements, reconciliations, account certification, regulatory reporting, and tax reporting, ensuring information is accurate, timely, well-supported, and compliant with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
Establish accounting policy, controls, and review standards, serving as Royal’s senior technical accounting authority, maintaining the Accounting Policy and Control Frameworks, and ensuring appropriate accounting evaluation and risk-based review for significant transactions, estimates, products, systems, and business initiatives.
Maintain audit and examination readiness, leading Accounting’s relationships with external auditors and examiners, ensuring requests and conclusions are properly supported, and driving sustainable remediation of accounting-related findings and control deficiencies.
Govern trusted financial information by establishing accounting requirements, reconciliation standards, ownership, and controls for certified financial data used in financial, regulatory, management, and analytical reporting.
Build scalable accounting operations by clarifying ownership, standardizing processes, strengthening documentation and backup coverage, and utilizing technology and automation to improve accounting quality, capacity, visibility, and control effectiveness.
Lead and develop the accounting organization by establishing clear expectations, actively managing workload and priorities, developing technical and leadership capabilities, strengthening succession and cross-training, and holding the team accountable for quality, ownership, and continuous improvement.
Serve as the accounting authority in organizational decisions, partnering across Finance, Business Intelligence, Technology, Risk, and business units to ensure accounting requirements are incorporated into systems, reporting, products, contracts, and strategic initiatives from the beginning.
Support the VP, Accounting by providing clear visibility into accounting results, risks, capacity, and priorities, and serving as backup within delegated authority.
