About The Position

American Pest is looking for a strong accounting professional who's ready to take ownership of the numbers and help guide the financial operations of a growing business. As our Controller, you'll lead the accounting team, oversee day-to-day accounting operations, and ensure our financial reporting is accurate, timely, and reliable. You'll work closely with our VP of Finance to manage the financial close, strengthen controls and processes, and build accounting practices that can scale with the business. Whether you're an experienced Controller or an accomplished accounting professional ready to step into the role for the first time, this is an opportunity to take on broader responsibility, lead a team, and make a meaningful impact on how the business operates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience with accrual accounting required.
  • Experience leading audits and establishing internal controls.
  • Ability to create financial modeling and forecasting tools.
  • A strong understanding and functional application of MS Office Suite with an especially strong understanding of Excel.
  • The ability to multi-task and prioritize competing responsibilities according to urgency and importance in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong data entry skills and a high level of accuracy.
  • The ability to be a positive, up-beat, team-player.
  • High attention to detail and a desire for getting things right.
  • The ability to concentrate for extended periods of time.
  • The ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English.
  • Legal eligibility to work in the U.S.

Nice To Haves

  • Acquisition integration experience a plus.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Financial Management experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, cash management, payroll accounting, fixed assets, and the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process.
  • Prepare and review financial statements.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and GAAP-aligned accounting practices.
  • Support audits.
  • Ensure information flows accurately between our accounting, operational, payment, and banking systems.
  • Look for opportunities to improve how the accounting department works, strengthening processes, building better procedures, and creating an accounting operation that can continue to scale as American Pest grows.
