About The Position

The Financial Controller directs financial reporting, accounts payable, purchasing, payroll, and general ledger functions. The role is responsible for the overall care, custody, and management of the organization’s funds, securities, and records. The Controller supports hiring, training, development, and supervision of Finance teams; establishes departmental standards and objectives; and maintains administrative processes such as budgeting and staffing. The role participates in developing short- and long-term financial plans, coordinates company budgets and inventory, and oversees external audit preparation and financial reporting. The Controller also prepares budgets, financial statements, cost and revenue estimates, and other reports, while directing reporting to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. The position is based at The Rose Gaming Resort, a gaming and entertainment complex in Dumfries, Virginia. Work takes place in an office-like environment and may involve exposure to smoke on the gaming-room floor. The role may require long hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and requires obtaining and maintaining a valid Virginia Racing Commission License.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Three years of experience in accounting, financial planning and analysis, supervision, or a related role.
Must obtain and maintain a valid Virginia Racing Commission License.
Leadership and management skills, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.
Knowledge of short- and long-term budgeting and forecasting, rolling budgets, and product-line profitability analysis.
Knowledge of finance, accounting, general ledger, payroll, fixed assets, and financial analysis functions, as well as gaming regulations.
Knowledge of Microsoft applications and various accounting software programs.

Nice To Haves

CPA or MBA.
Two years’ experience as a Controller.
Knowledge of gaming finance.

Responsibilities

Assist with hiring, training, development, and supervision of Finance teams.
Establish department standards, guidelines, and objectives, and maintain administrative processes such as budget and staffing.
Participate in the design, development, and implementation of short- and long-term financial plans for the general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets, purchasing, payroll, and financial analysis.
Create and coordinate company budgets and inventory, ensuring efficient use of funds, personnel, materials, facilities, and time.
Coordinate preparation of external audit materials and external financial reporting.
Prepare statements and reports of estimated future costs and revenues.
Produce annual budgets and monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and other requested reports.
Review and manage preparation of financial reports, studies, and information requests from other departments.
Direct daily, monthly, quarterly, and yearly reporting to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Review finance operations and administrative functions to implement changes, improve operations, and allocate resources.
Perform other duties as assigned.
