About The Position

Riderflex is partnering with a mission-driven nonprofit organization to identify a Controller who will play a key leadership role within the finance and accounting function. This individual will report directly to the CFO and will be responsible for overseeing accounting operations, strengthening internal processes, and providing leadership and development to an established and collaborative finance team. This is a key leadership hire for the organization. The Controller will play an important role in strengthening the accounting function, supporting team development, and contributing to the long-term success of a mission-driven organization.

Requirements

• 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience
• Experience in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or similar accounting leadership role
• Strong technical accounting foundation and hands-on experience
• Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop a team
• Ability to adapt to a changing environment and bring structure to evolving processes
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field

Nice To Haves

• Experience with real estate or construction accounting
• Experience in nonprofit accounting environments
• CPA or CPA-track strongly preferred
• Master’s degree in Accounting or related field
• Bilingual Spanish is a plus
• Experience with LIHTC partnerships and equity syndication accounting
• Experience with HUD or federal program compliance reporting
• Familiarity with single audit requirements under Uniform Guidance
• Proficiency in nonprofit accounting software (e.g., Sage Intacct, MIP/Abila) and advanced Excel skills

Responsibilities

• Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and financial reporting
• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes with accuracy and timeliness
• Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, grant requirements, and regulatory guidelines
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning efforts in partnership with leadership
• Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of approximately 5–6 accounting professionals
• Strengthen internal controls and improve accounting processes and workflows
• Provide leadership in delegating responsibilities and building team accountability
• Partner closely with the CFO on financial strategy, reporting, and operational priorities
• Assist with audits and ensure readiness for internal and external financial reviews
• Oversee accounting for real estate development activities including construction draws, loan compliance, developer fee recognition, equity syndication entries (LIHTC), and property management related accounting activities
