About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Controller to join our Vancouver office for a 15-month contract. Reporting directly to the Director of Finance, the Controller will oversee the day-to-day accounting and financial operations while mentoring a talented group of accounting professionals. This is a hands-on role where you will ensure the accuracy of financial reporting, manage internal controls, and provide actionable insights to support executive decision-making. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a strong accounting background who is looking to contribute to the financial health of a dynamic organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA designation.
  • Minimum of seven years of experience in accounting, with at least three years in a senior or supervisory role.
  • Experience working in a project-based environment is highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial regulations.
  • Proficiency using project-based software, ADP, and advanced Excel skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy, with excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of payroll processes and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

  • Manage, mentor, and train a small internal finance and accounting team.
  • Oversee full-cycle accounting, ensuring accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Coordinate annual operating budgets, cash flow forecasts, and variance analysis.
  • Strengthen financial systems, internal controls, and administrative workflows.
  • Manage year-end working papers and coordinate smoothly with external accounting firms and tax advisors.
  • Oversee, maintain, and update financial records, including ledgers, journals, and accounts payable/receivable.
  • Supervise AR processes, ensuring accurate billing, collections, and timely follow-up on overdue accounts. Work closely with the sales and project teams to ensure accurate invoicing and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Deliver timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements that help leadership make informed decisions.
  • Ensure optimal profitability for the company.
  • Participate in special projects and provide accounting support for new initiatives and business strategies.
