About The Position

George Evans Corporation and Matcon Manufacturing are seeking an experienced Controller to lead our accounting and financial operations in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This is a key leadership position responsible for financial reporting, budgeting, cost accounting, inventory controls, cash flow management, and supporting strategic business decisions. We are a proud family-owned manufacturing company with over 110 years of history, focused on producing high-quality steel reels, racks, and returnable packaging solutions. The Controller is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating all accounting and financial activities of the company. This position oversees financial reporting, budgeting, cost accounting, internal controls, cash management, inventory accounting, and compliance functions within a manufacturing environment. The Controller provides financial analysis and guidance to leadership to support sound business decisions, operational efficiency, and profitability. ERP system experience is required. Experience with Global Shop Solutions is a plus.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Manufacturing accounting experience required.
  • ERP experience required.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of cost accounting and inventory management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Experience with Global Shop Solutions preferred.
  • CPA or CMA certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the general ledger and ensure accuracy of all financial records.
  • Oversee month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.
  • Monitor accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll-related accounting entries.
  • Coordinate annual audits, tax preparation, and outside financial service providers.
  • Maintain accurate inventory valuation methods and controls.
  • Analyze material, labor, and overhead costs.
  • Review job costing, production variances, and gross margins.
  • Support pricing decisions through cost and profitability analysis.
  • Assist with physical inventory counts and cycle count procedures.
  • Work with operations to identify cost savings and efficiency improvements.
  • Prepare annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
  • Monitor financial performance against budget and explain variances.
  • Provide financial reports and analysis to ownership and leadership.
  • Manage key performance indicators and reporting metrics.
  • Assist with cash flow forecasting and capital expenditure planning.
  • Maintain internal accounting controls and financial procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable laws/regulations.
  • Support insurance, banking, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Safeguard company assets through proper controls and oversight.
  • Maintain integrity of accounting data within ERP systems.
  • Develop and improve financial reporting processes.
  • Assist with ERP implementation, upgrades, and optimization.
  • Utilize system reporting tools to improve visibility and efficiency.
  • Directly supervises accounting staff.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
