About The Position

Are you a hands-on financial leader who thrives on building strong processes while delivering strategic insight? At Education Management Solutions (EMS), we’re looking for a Controller who brings both technical accounting expertise and forward-thinking financial analysis to the table. In this role, you’ll lead our accounting operations, oversee financial reporting and audit processes, and partner closely with leadership to drive informed, data-driven decisions. You’ll manage a team, while helping ensure operational excellence while strengthening the company’s financial foundation as we continue to grow.

Requirements

  • 7–10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including leadership of accounting teams.
  • Strong background in financial reporting, GAAP compliance, and internal controls.
  • Demonstrated FP&A experience, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling.
  • Experience leading external audits and working with auditors.
  • Ability to translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights.
  • Collaborative leadership style with strong communication and organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA strongly preferred
  • Public accounting experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and all regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting policies.
  • Lead preparation of financial reports for executive leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Lead annual budgeting and rolling forecasting processes.
  • Monitor financial performance and deliver meaningful variance analysis and insights.
  • Support pricing decisions, contract negotiations, and product investment modeling.
  • Partner with department leaders to improve cost management and operational efficiency.
  • Serve as primary liaison for external audits and coordinate audit readiness.
  • Manage relationships with auditors and external advisors.
  • Ensure compliance with debt covenants and financial reporting obligations.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the Cost Accountant, Revenue Accountant, and Procurement Director.
  • Strengthen procurement controls and align purchasing activities with financial goals.
  • Build scalable processes to support company growth.
