About The Position

The Controller will manage the preparation and review of financial reporting, reconciliation, and analysis. This includes preparing and analyzing profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and key performance statistics. The role involves providing timely financial statement analysis, interpreting data, developing management reports, and conducting ad-hoc analysis as required for the Executive Management Team. The Controller will evaluate and present financial performance monthly against prior results, budget, and forecast, assisting with the investigation and explanation of variances. Additionally, the Controller will manage the preparation and submittal of tax reporting schedules, ensuring compliance with multi-jurisdictional tax reports and state regulatory requirements, as well as overseeing business compliance filings. Accuracy and adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) are paramount. The role requires researching and reviewing accounting issues, overseeing the accounting team (Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable), and mentoring staff. Creating, implementing, and measuring department objectives, policies, and operating procedures are key responsibilities. The Controller will also review, develop, and implement accounting workflow and system processes to improve efficiency, maintain internal controls, and ensure proper integration of new initiatives. Evaluating and developing cost reduction and performance enhancement strategies, managing business reporting tools for month-end closing, and overseeing performance bonus programs and payroll-related items are also included. Collaboration with other department managers to support company goals and serving as a liaison with audit agencies are essential. The role involves managing the preparation of audit requests and tax work papers, undertaking special projects, and providing backup support for all accounting duties.

Requirements

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Internal/External audit experience required.
  • Multi-state jurisdictional experience required in any of the following: compliance, sales/use tax, property, franchise, excise, business tax reporting.
  • Experience in partnering with IT/Systems is critical with ability to balance technology with accounting process and build efficient business processes and controls.
  • Ability to set and achieve financial goals, budgets and cost effectiveness, interpret financial reports and recommend appropriate actions.
  • Work effectively with business partners and cross functionally with other departments.
  • Minimum 10-12 year professional experience.
  • 5 year experience in accounting/controllership area with documented managerial experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • CPA preferred, but not required if applicable experience can be proven.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the preparation and review of financial reporting, reconciliation, and analysis.

  • Oversee and approve the submittal of multi-jurisdictional tax reports.
  • Stay educated in state regulatory requirements.
  • Manage and ensure the submittal of business compliance filings.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate reporting of all financial information in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Research and review all accounting issues.
  • Oversee and manage accounting team consisting of Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable.
  • Train and mentor department staff to ensure appropriate prioritization of day to day responsibilities and project objectives.
  • Create, implement, and measure department objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
  • Review, develop, provide recommendations, and implement accounting workflow & system processes to continuously improve department and organizational efficiency while maintaining internal controls and ensuring proper integration of new initiatives to the general ledger.

  • Develop and manage business reporting tools utilized for month end closing.
  • Manage the reporting, monitoring, and calculation of performance bonus programs and other payroll related items.

  • Manage the preparation of audit requests and tax work papers.
