About The Position

This organization is a mission‑driven technology company working on advanced security solutions supporting government and commercial clients across highly regulated industries. Backed by institutional investment and positioned for significant growth, the firm is seeking a Controller who thrives in a “build and own” environment. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, this role serves as the senior finance leader for the business and owns the full accounting and finance function. The ideal candidate is comfortable operating as a one‑person finance leader, rolling up their sleeves while also providing executive‑level insight and guidance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 7+ years of experience, including a combination of public accounting and industry experience
  • Background in U.S. Government Contracting (indirect rates, DCAA/DCMA, FAR/DFARS)
  • Deep understanding of full‑cycle accounting and financial operations
  • Highly detail‑oriented, deadline‑driven, and adaptable
  • U.S. citizenship required (must be clearable)

Nice To Haves

  • CPA designation
  • Experience supporting a growth‑stage or technology‑focused organization
  • QuickBooks experience (ERP‑savvy candidates welcomed)
  • Active or prior Secret / Top Secret clearance, or willingness to obtain clearance

Responsibilities

  • Lead the month‑end close process, including reconciliations, journal entries, labor distribution, and financial reporting
  • Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and GAAP compliance across all financial statements
  • Maintain strong internal controls and financial governance
  • Serve as the primary finance lead for U.S. Government contracts
  • Develop and manage indirect rates, provisional billing rates, and incurred cost submissions
  • Lead interactions with DCAA and DCMA, including audits and compliance matters
  • Oversee contract lifecycle activities including pricing, FAR/DFARS compliance, invoicing, revenue recognition, and closeouts
  • Build and maintain financial models for cash flow, burn rate, revenue, and expense forecasting
  • Produce monthly executive dashboards and KPIs
  • Partner closely with leadership to support strategic decision‑making
  • Oversee payroll, vendor payments, expense classification, and commission calculations
  • Manage timekeeping systems and utilization reporting
  • Coordinate tax filings with external providers (federal, state, and local)
  • Lead annual 409A valuation and own stock administration (cap table, equity, investor reporting)
