About The Position

Ci is seeking a motivated and experienced Controller to join our Baltimore office full-time and oversee the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of the firm. This position will work closely with our CEO, COO, and the Fractional CFO to support the financial health, reporting, and strategic growth of the company. The ideal candidate will have experience within the architecture, engineering, or professional services industry and possess strong knowledge of project-based accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and operational processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • Minimum 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within the architecture, engineering, or professional services industry.
  • Proven experience with ERP/accounting systems required, specifically Unanet or another comparable system such as Deltek or Unanet.
  • Strong understanding of project-based accounting, WIP management, revenue recognition, and financial reporting.
  • Experience preparing financial statements in accordance with Hybrid Accounting Standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple departments and offices.
  • Experience working with outside organizations, including external accountants, insurance, employee benefits, and banking to achieve company strategic goals.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience managing and developing direct reports.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master’s degree or CPA designation preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll coordination, billing, and general ledger activity.
  • Manage the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, including preparation of financial statements and related reporting.
  • Collaborate with leadership and the Fractional CFO on budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial strategy.
  • Monitor project financial performance, utilization, WIP, labor multipliers, and profitability reporting.
  • Define Key Performance Indicators with management guidance and reporting on those KPI on monthly basis
  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with Hybrid Accounting Standards.
  • Liaise with external accountants, auditors, insurance providers, and banking institutions as needed.
  • Oversee payroll, tax compliance, and benefits-related financial administration.
  • Analyze financial data and provide recommendations to leadership regarding financial performance and operational efficiencies.
  • Participate in system improvements, reporting enhancements, and accounting process optimization initiatives.
  • Manage and support accounting staff while fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Maintain confidentiality and accuracy with all financial and employee-related information.
  • Contribute to additional accounting and finance team efforts as needed.
