About The Position

The Controller will act as the right hand to the CFO on all financial matters on behalf of MarketWise and its affiliate Companies. Additionally, in concert with the CFO, execute the direction and leadership for the accounting, tax, treasury, and risk management functions for MarketWise and for our family of companies. The Controller will also implement and enhance a business strategy that fosters primarily organic growth in addition to select merger and acquisitions targets. This resource will manage the Directors of the Accounting Finance team and oversee the staffing levels and tactical direction for the team to execute a compliant business rhythm for a public company.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in corporate accounting or finance leadership role.
  • Experience with guiding oversight of finance, accounting, treasury, risk management and financial planning functions.
  • MBA or CPA preferred, and bachelor’s degree required.
  • Strong public company experience at a senior leadership level is preferred.
  • Solid understanding of accounting and finance principles.
  • Change management and investor relations experience preferred.
  • Strong sense of curiosity and drive.
  • Enthusiasm for a fast-paced environment where change is the norm.

Responsibilities

  • At the direction of the CEO and CFO, monitor and direct the implementation of strategic business plans
  • Assist the CFO in formulating the company's future direction and supporting tactical initiatives
  • Stay up to date on all aspects of GAAP accounting principals for execution for the Company
  • Manage the accumulation and consolation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results
  • Execute financial and tax strategies
  • Execute performance measures that support the company's strategic direction
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with all members of the management team
  • Manage the accounting, tax, and treasury departments, including hiring, developing, and leading and mentorship of the employees.
  • Oversee the financial operations of subsidiary companies and foreign operations, as applicable
  • Manage any third parties to which accounting, or finance functions have been outsourced
  • Coordinate activities of external auditors
  • Oversee the company's transaction processing systems
  • Identify, prioritize and lead high-value automation/AI opportunities across department.
  • Implement operational best practices
  • Evaluate accounting software effectiveness and act as the product owner with the technology team.
  • Assist in the supervision of transaction due diligence
  • Coordinate and prepare all Form 8-K, 10-K, and 10-Q filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission, when applicable
  • Prepare reporting financial results to the board of directors
  • Understand and mitigate key elements of the company’s risk profile
  • Oversee reliable control systems
  • Maintain appropriate insurance coverage
  • Ensure that the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies
  • Monitor cash balances and cash forecasts
  • If and as needed, arrange for debt and equity financing
  • Represent the company with investment bankers and investors if requested by the CFO and Executive Leadership
  • Maintain banking relationship
