This role ensures accurate financial statements, strong internal controls, and compliance with accounting standards and regulations. They also provide financial insight to support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic decision-making, while leading and developing the accounting team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • CPA License required.
  • 2-3 years of experience in a Controller position required.
  • 6-10 years of progressive accounting experience required, including experience in the construction industry.
  • Previous experience with QuickBooks.
  • Proficiency with Procore.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee accounting operations including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, job costing, and general ledger management.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Oversee the month end close process including general ledger accuracy, journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and financial review.
  • Manage Work in Progress (WIP) schedules and ensure related reporting is done accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Review and approve final payroll disbursements including salaries, wages, etc., to ensure funds are distributed accurately.
  • Coordinate and oversee project billing, ensuring compliance with certified payroll and job cost requirements.
  • Manage annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Supervise accounts payable, accounts receivable, project billing, and payroll activities.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of vendor invoices, payments, and customer billings.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement within the accounting team.
  • Serve as a key liaison between accounting and other departments.
  • Lead and support the annual budgeting process, collaborating with department heads to establish financial targets.
  • Monitor actual performance against budget and forecast, identifying, and explaining variances.
  • Develop rolling forecasts to provide visibility into future financial performance.
  • Implement cost control measures to optimize operational efficiency and profitability.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax requirements.
  • Coordinate year-end financial review or audit with external CPA firm.
  • Maintain and enforce internal controls and accounting policies and procedures.
  • Operate as a hands-on leader supporting day-to-day accounting activities as needed.
  • Evaluate and improve financial systems, processes, and reporting tools to support company growth and scalability.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
