About The Position

The Controller is responsible for overseeing the daily accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls for John Jones Auto Group. This position plays a key role in ensuring accurate financial records, timely reporting, and strong communication between accounting, management, and dealership leadership.

Requirements

  • Previous automotive dealership accounting experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of dealership financial statements, schedules, general ledger, and month-end close.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior Controller or Finance Manager experience preferred.
  • Experience with dealership management systems preferred.
  • Previous automotive dealership Controller or Assistant Controller experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of dealership accounting processes, financial statements, and month-end close procedures
  • Experience managing multi-store or multi-franchise accounting operations preferred
  • Knowledge of dealership management systems (DMS) and accounting software
  • Experience with payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and manufacturer reporting
  • Proven leadership experience managing and developing accounting office staff
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and financial reporting skills preferred

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, schedules, and general ledger activity.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze monthly financial statements for accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensure all dealership accounting practices comply with company policies, manufacturer requirements, and applicable regulations.
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and ensure schedules are maintained and accurate.
  • Partner with department managers to review financial performance, expenses, and operational trends.
  • Maintain strong internal controls to protect company assets and ensure accurate reporting.
  • Supervise, train, and support accounting office staff.
  • Assist with audits, tax preparation, manufacturer reporting, and other financial requests as needed.
  • Identify process improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and accountability within the accounting office.
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial, employee, and company information.
