Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business-related field.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience in accounting plus 3 years of Controller experience.
  • Leadership and supervisory capabilities.
  • Solid operational and technical accounting skills.
  • Works proactively to drive results.
  • Willing and able to work in a Hybrid capacity- 3 days in office (San Diego).
  • PC proficient and able to thrive in a fast-pace setting.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Excel.
  • Self-starter, flexible, has a high level of integrity and is action and goal-oriented in a fast-paced, team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of general accounting including application of general accounting theory.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Demonstrated mentoring, coaching and organizational administrative skills.
  • Self-managed and ability to work independently while managing multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA or MBA.
  • Experience with QuickBooks and/or another automated accounting system.
  • Thorough knowledge of general accounting including application of general accounting theory.
  • Experience working in a consulting environment or professional services firm.
  • Appfolio, Quickbooks, Netsuite, Intacct, Yardi, Deltek experience.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the running of the accounting department.
  • Responsible for the company's financial statements, general ledger, payroll, AR and AP, budgeting, EDD, Sales, taxes, and various special projects.
  • Supervises accountants and other accounting staff.
  • Creates a month-end close process and checklist and ensures the team accomplishes their respective tasks.
  • Acts as liaison between the company, client, and outside CPAs in providing the required information.
  • Supervises employees performing financial reporting, accounting, billing, collections, payroll, and budgeting duties.
  • Develops internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for activities such as budget administration, cash and credit management, and accounting.
  • Maintains current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies, and accounting standards.
  • Prepares or directs preparation of financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, annual budgets, or reports required by regulatory agencies.
  • Provides direction and assistance to other organizational units regarding accounting and budgeting policies and procedures and efficient control and utilization of financial resources.
  • Serves as company liaison with auditors (Annual financial and 401K audits).
  • Analyzes the financial details of past, present, and expected operations to identify development opportunities and areas where improvement is needed.
  • Monitors financial activities and details, such as cash flow and reserve levels, to ensure that all legal and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with banking, insurance, and non-organizational accounting personnel to facilitate financial activities.
  • Receives, records, and authorizes requests for disbursements in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Conducts or coordinates audits of company accounts and financial transactions to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements and statutes.
  • Analyzes the effect of statutory accounting practices and studies regulations and guidance to ensure correct application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Responsible for hierarchy and scalability in chart of accounts and accuracy in the general ledger and financial statements.
  • Reviews, analyzes and reconciles general ledger accounts, investment transactions in conjunction with preparing quarterly reports for management.
  • Serves as point of resolution of Accounts Receivable/Accounts Payable issues.
