About The Position

As Forus' first dedicated accounting hire, this role will be responsible for closing the books, reporting financials, and establishing the systems and controls necessary for a strong financial foundation during the company's scaling phase. The foundation built by this role will enable Forus to scale its provider network and commercial partnerships with reliable financial data for leadership, auditors, and partners. The position involves running the close process, managing the General Ledger, overseeing technical accounting, implementing controls, and interacting with auditors and external partners. This role will also contribute to architecting the accounting function by advancing tools, designing processes, and setting standards for future team growth. It is a demanding position with significant autonomy and responsibility, requiring an "owner" mentality and commitment to Forus' success. The ideal candidate is low-ego, eager to learn, and excited about intense, impactful work that drives company growth and career progression.

Requirements

  • CPA with 5–10 years of accounting experience, including Big 4 or equivalent audit experience
  • Demonstrated experience implementing modern financial systems and ERPs — QuickBooks, NetSuite, Ramp, Bill, Rippling, or similar — with informed opinions about what fits at our stage versus the next one
  • Deep working knowledge of US GAAP, financial controls, and technical accounting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication: capable of translating complex financial insights into clear narrative
  • Track record of moving quickly, finding shortcuts, and going to unreasonable lengths to deliver on goals
  • High NPS with your former teammates

Responsibilities

  • Own core accounting operations end-to-end, including monthly close, GL, AP/AR, payroll, tax, and technical accounting, and set the cadence that delivers accurate, timely financials
  • Design and document the controls, policies, and processes of a best-in-class accounting function, building infrastructure the team can inherit as we grow
  • Drive technical accounting decisions across revenue recognition, stock-based compensation, multi-entity reporting, and capitalization policies
  • Evaluate and implement the tools and systems (ERP, AP/AR, payroll, and adjacent platforms) that scale with the demands of the business
  • Partner with Strategic Finance to produce the monthly reporting package, board materials, and investor reporting
  • Work with Legal and Operations to structure contracts, pricing, and financial controls that hold up as the business scales
