About The Position

Chelsea Tech is a high-performance Managed Services Provider delivering white-glove IT and operational support to fast-paced professional environments. The CFO / Controller is responsible for overseeing the company’s financial operations, accounting functions, and financial planning while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and financial discipline. This role blends hands-on financial management with strategic oversight. The CFO / Controller manages accounting, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial controls, while also supporting leadership with financial insight, decision-making, and business performance visibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, motivate, and develop staff
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with leadership and operations teams

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a Controller or combined CFO / Controller role preferred
  • Experience in an MSP, IT services, SaaS, or professional services environment
  • CPA or equivalent certification
  • Experience supporting growth-stage or scaling businesses
  • Familiarity with project-based billing, managed services revenue, or recurring revenue models

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, banking, and reconciliations
  • Develop, implement, and monitor accounting systems, procedures, and internal controls
  • Manage the monthly accounting close process and prepare month-end financial statements
  • Review and analyze financial information related to assets, liabilities, and capital
  • Perform daily banking activities and cash management functions
  • Prepare 1099s and coordinate required tax filings
  • Prepare and analyze financial and operational reports for executive leadership
  • Coordinate the preparation of corporate budgets, forecasts, and financial projections
  • Monitor budget performance and manage the department budget
  • Prepare and deliver financial reports required by ownership, banks, auditors, and other stakeholders
  • Analyze financial performance, trends, and variances to support business decisions
  • Install, modify, document, and maintain accounting systems and control procedures
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax regulations, and company policies
  • Coordinate and manage year-end audits and external accounting relationships
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation and financial records
  • Review and analyze accounting operations and recommend financial objectives, policies, and improvements
  • Support senior leadership with financial analysis, pricing, margin review, and cost control
  • Create and implement annual finance department strategic plans
  • Support operational leaders with financial insight and guidance
  • Hire, train, supervise, motivate, and develop finance and accounting staff
  • Assign duties, manage workflow, and monitor quality of work
  • Provide day-to-day guidance, feedback, and performance recognition
  • Ensure staff adhere to company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Proactively identify issues within the team and implement corrective actions
