About The Position

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Controller to lead our day-to-day accounting and finance operations. In this key leadership role, you will oversee the full accounting function, maintain a strong internal control environment, ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, and serve as a trusted partner to the CFO, executive team, and broader organization. Your insights and recommendations will help drive decision‑making, operational rigor, and long‑term financial health. What You Get to Do: Maintain strong internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures. Ensure process integrity across AP, AR, Payroll, General Ledger, Job Cost, Subcontract Ledger, and Billing. Coordinate external financial audits and ensure GAAP compliance. Oversee accurate and timely filing of all required taxes (payroll, sales/use, excise, etc.). Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close, including journal entries, accruals, allocations, and reconciliations. Prepare and review financial statements, projections, and variance analyses. Publish monthly financial reports within defined timelines. Manage all corporate banking relationships and cash accounts. Monitor cash flow and working capital; evaluate investment opportunities. Lead Accounts Receivable (AR) performance to drive strong collections and reduce Daily Billings Outstanding (DBO), improving cash flow and working capital. Oversee weekly payroll, expense processing, and related tax deductions. Ensure timely and accurate AP/AR processing and collections. Manage monthly corporate credit card reconciliation. Understand and manage data flows across ERP, Payroll, Job Costing, GL, AR/AP, and related systems. Maintain and update process documentation and internal controls. Partner with IT and business leaders on system enhancements and automation. Support the CFO with annual budgeting and forecasting. Provide ad hoc financial analysis and insights to executives and department leaders. Assist with administration of benefit and incentive programs as assigned. Lead and mentor a team that may include Project Accountants, Staff Accountants, and Payroll staff. Support hiring, onboarding, performance management, and career development. Establish clear expectations, workflows, and quality standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required).
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Experience in construction, engineering, or other project-based/professional services environments preferred.
  • Strong background in GAAP reporting, month-end close, audits, and union payroll.
  • Proficiency with enterprise ERP/accounting systems; CMiC and Power BI experience preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, vlookups).
  • Experience with job cost/contract management systems and HR/Payroll/AP/AR/GL integrations.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, cash management, and working capital.
  • Excellent time management and ability to balance multiple priorities calmly and accurately.
  • High attention to detail, thorough documentation habits, and strong organizational skills.
  • Clear and confident communication with both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
  • A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently or collaboratively.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between locations as needed.
  • Passes background check, Motor Vehicle Records check and drug screen.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA license (preferred).
  • Experience in construction, engineering, or other project-based/professional services environments preferred.
  • Proficiency with enterprise ERP/accounting systems; CMiC and Power BI experience preferred.
