About The Position

Dyson is a global technology enterprise experiencing rapid growth and expansion across categories, locations, and personnel. Our US headquarters is located in Chicago's Fulton Market neighborhood, with employees also working in field sales, service centers, and Dyson Demo Stores nationwide. This role is primarily responsible for accurate and timely accounting for the US Market, with potential support for Mexico and Canada. The position involves delivering P+L statements, providing insights into performance drivers, and preparing reports and KPIs in line with the Finance Center of Excellence (FCoE) / Market Service Level Agreement. A key aspect of the role is driving process and policy transformation in collaboration with Finance leadership, including involvement in the SAP S4 HANA upgrade. The Controller will safeguard Dyson financials through adherence to accounting policies, review balance sheet reconciliations, and manage monthly cash flow forecasts. Responsibilities also include leading quarterly Balance Sheet reviews, completing Customer Board Pack commentary, and acting as a subject matter expert. In terms of statutory requirements, the role manages the relationship with a 3rd party provider for annual Statutory Accounts, Tax submissions, and local tax requirements, while also overseeing year-end external audit processes. The position serves as a liaison between global business service areas and the market, coordinating and communicating changes. The role partners with the Director of Financial Control Americas to deliver best-in-class Financial Operations, building strong relationships with Commercial Finance teams in the markets. It includes line management of a Senior Accountant and Tax & Accounting Manager, focusing on their coaching and career development. The Controller must maintain current knowledge of market and business changes. The role operates at Dyson's pace, addressing and embedding changes impacting the FCoE effectively and promptly, and fulfilling other ad hoc responsibilities as directed by senior leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required
  • 7+ years’ experience in accounting required
  • At least 5 years in a management/leadership role
  • Experience with SAP preferred
  • Experience with continuous process improvement within accounting and finance
  • Prior experience in month-end close and project management
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience of coaching and stakeholder management
  • Ability to organize and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
  • Proactive approach with great problem-solving skills
  • Highly motivated to achieve results

Responsibilities

  • Accurate and timely accounting for the US Market, with as-needed support for Mexico and Canada.
  • Delivery of P+L and understanding of performance drivers to market Finance teams, highlighting key movements with supporting analysis.
  • Delivery of reporting & KPIs in line with the Finance Center of Excellence (FCoE) / Market Service Level Agreement.
  • Working with Finance leadership to drive transformation of processes and policies.
  • Involvement in the implementation of upgrade to SAP S4 HANA.
  • Safeguarding Dyson financials via application of accounting policies and guidelines.
  • Review of balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring high quality is maintained.
  • Review and accountability for monthly cash flow forecast submission, communicating key drivers and variances.
  • Lead quarterly Balance Sheet review with key internal stakeholders highlighting risks, opportunities and areas of focus.
  • Complete and update the Customer Board Pack commentary and metrics.
  • Hold subject matter expertise.
  • Own the local relationship with 3rd party provider and ensure excellent service is delivered to Dyson and its markets.
  • Ensure the annual Statutory Accounts, annual Tax submission and any local tax requirements are prepared and submitted in line with deadlines.
  • Oversee year end external audit requirements.
  • Be the link between all global business service areas and the market.
  • Coordinate any changes impacting markets and communicate what these changes are, how they will impact stakeholders and any future requirements.
  • Partnering with the Director of Financial Control Americas, delivering a best-in-class Financial Operations service.
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders in the markets (Commercial Finance teams).
  • Line management of Senior Accountant and Tax & Accounting Manager, coaching and stretching to fulfill their potential, supporting career development.
  • Ensure knowledge of markets and the wider Dyson business is current, keeping up with any changes across the business.
  • Work at the same pace as Dyson, understanding any changes impacting FCoE and effectively addressing / embedding them in a timely manner.
  • Fulfill any other ad hoc responsibilities as directed by the Director of Financial Control Americas or CFO Americas.
