About The Position

We are seeking a Fractional Controller to oversee the firm’s financial management and provide strategic financial guidance to leadership at Jarvis Law Office, PC. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional who partners with multiple clients and is looking to add a stable, ongoing engagement with a mission-driven elder law firm. The Fractional Controller will maintain accurate financial records, manage budgeting and forecasting, support audits and compliance, and recommend process improvements within the finance function. This role focuses on core controllership responsibilities while allowing flexibility in schedule and engagement structure, depending on agreed-upon hours and scope.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in accounting/controllership; prior fractional or consulting experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting professional services organizations; law firm or similar environment preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and common accounting platforms.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple client priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with leadership and operations teams while maintaining independence and objectivity.

  • CPA, or similar certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the general ledger, ensuring accurate and timely recording of financial transactions.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow.
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance.
  • Coordinate and support external audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting as needed.
  • Monitor cash flow, budgeting, and forecasting activities; provide concise analysis and recommendations to leadership.
  • Review and approve accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and expense reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with policies.
  • Provide financial insights to support strategic decision-making, growth planning, and cost management.
  • Partner with leadership to evaluate business cases, capital investments, and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Support the development and monitoring of KPIs and performance metrics for financial outcomes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, systems, and workflows within the finance function.
  • Review key company contracts to ensure alignment with organizational objectives and compliance guidelines.
  • Perform additional finance-related duties as mutually agreed upon to support the firm’s objectives.
