About The Position

The Controller / Finance Manager is responsible for leading the company's accounting and finance functions while providing financial insight, analysis, forecasting, and decision support to executive leadership. This role ensures the accuracy of financial reporting, develops the accounting team, strengthens internal controls, and transforms financial and operational data into actionable business intelligence. The Controller serves as a key business partner to the President and executive team by helping evaluate performance, identify opportunities, support strategic planning, and improve overall financial management across the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • 5–10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
  • Experience leading accounting teams.
  • Strong financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting experience.
  • Experience supporting operational leaders with financial decision-making.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA, CMA, MBA, or equivalent professional credential preferred.
  • Multi-location retail, distribution, manufacturing, or service business experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze company, department, and store performance to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Conduct monthly variance analysis comparing actual results to budget and forecast.
  • Develop financial models to support pricing, staffing, capital investment, and strategic initiatives.
  • Partner with department leaders to improve profitability and financial performance.
  • Provide financial recommendations to executive leadership based on business trends and operational results.
  • Support strategic planning initiatives through financial analysis and scenario modeling.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process.
  • Develop rolling financial forecasts throughout the year.
  • Monitor business performance against budget and forecast expectations.
  • Identify emerging financial risks and opportunities.
  • Assist leadership with long-range financial planning.
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial statement preparation.
  • Develop executive-level dashboards and management reporting.
  • Present financial results and key insights to leadership.
  • Improve reporting tools and financial visibility throughout the organization.
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Ensure accuracy of general ledger activity.
  • Oversee account reconciliations and financial controls.
  • Coordinate with external auditors, tax professionals, and banking partners.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
  • Monitor company cash flow and liquidity.
  • Develop cash flow forecasts.
  • Manage banking relationships.
  • Identify opportunities to improve working capital efficiency.
  • Monitor accounts receivable, accounts payable, and inventory-related financial performance.
  • Develop and maintain internal financial controls.
  • Ensure appropriate segregation of duties and approval processes.
  • Evaluate operational and financial risks.
  • Recommend process improvements to strengthen financial integrity and efficiency.
  • Lead, coach, and develop accounting and administrative team members.
  • Establish clear expectations, accountability, and performance standards.
  • Conduct regular team meetings and performance reviews.
  • Identify training and development opportunities for team members.
  • Create cross-training and succession plans for critical responsibilities.
  • Foster a culture of professionalism, continuous improvement, and customer service.
  • Work closely with Retail Operations, Central Design, Purchasing, Marketing, and Executive Leadership.
  • Support department managers with financial interpretation and decision-making.
  • Assist leaders in understanding the financial impact of operational decisions.
  • Participate in strategic projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
