About The Position

The Control Technician II - Support Operations role at GE Appliances, a Haier company, is crucial for supporting appliance manufacturing operations. The primary goal is to continuously monitor process parameters to ensure the production of high-quality parts and products with minimal scrap. This role involves maintaining process controls, robot programs, and other systems, including injection molding and vacuum forming, to support safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives within the Decatur operations. The technician will work under the direction of an area leader or manager, responsible for processing, setup, and troubleshooting of machines and equipment in their assigned area, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, housekeeping, and company policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • One or more years of experience in a job involving manufacturing machine setup, troubleshooting, and mold change, preferably in a high-volume environment.
  • Knowledge of PLCs and the capability to make minor adjustments.
  • Ability to work with tight tolerances (+/- .0005 - .002).
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Capability of working around moving machines, robots, equipment, forklifts, etc.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to understand basic mechanical concepts and relationships.
  • Availability to work weekends and extended hours as needed, as well as during shutdowns.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
  • Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions in English.
  • Must pass a background check and drug screen.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a physical confirming satisfactory health for the job and have the ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without an accommodation.
  • Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs., with potential heavy lifting up to 75 lbs.
  • Must be able to access required areas pertaining to the job including, but not limited to: foam rooms, chemicals, high noise, and other areas of the plant.
  • Job may require the use of a respirator at times; therefore, candidates must complete an annual medical evaluation to safely wear a respirator.
  • Able to operate and troubleshoot the machinery, tools, and equipment.
  • Must be capable of obtaining & maintaining Fork Truck certifications/licenses.
  • Exposure to equipment at elevated temperatures.
  • Must wear all required PPE including steel-toed shoes & hearing protection.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree in a technical field.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting, setup, loading, transferring, operating, and adjusting processes and associated production equipment.
  • Performing routine and preventive maintenance and troubleshooting equipment malfunctions.
  • Completing changeovers as needed, including changing dies and performing manual tool changeovers to convert fixtures for running and trialing different size configurations.
  • Working with operations leadership to prioritize work and meet critical deadlines.
  • Collaborating with quality, engineering, and maintenance teams to prepare for trials, assist in operations, and handle the disposition of test or scrap materials.
  • Proactively leading the troubleshooting and analysis of assigned equipment, machines, and processes.
  • Implementing actions and assisting in documenting and tracking processes for improvement.
  • Utilizing technology such as PLCs, smart boards, TV screens, and kiosks on the shop floor to monitor equipment.
  • Rotating among jobs within the department to gain knowledge of all aspects of the production process.
  • Maintaining a clean work environment and following all company policies and practices regarding safety and material handling.
  • Utilizing a forklift to maneuver parts, materials, and dies in the area.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
