About The Position

The Division of Facilities and Campus Services at Cornell University is seeking a Control Technician Apprentice to assist a Journeyperson Control Technician in installing and troubleshooting pneumatic and direct digital building management systems, as well as electronic HVAC temperature controls, within university facilities. This is a benefits-eligible, union position within the BTC. Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, the employee will be classified as a Journeyperson Control Technician. The role requires the apprentice to gain knowledge and experience during the training period. Requirements

  • Experience modeling values that support inclusion, belonging, and wellbeing.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Mechanical aptitude for equipment installation, repair and maintenance.
  • Ability to acquire familiarity and/or knowledge of all aspects of the controls field.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Customer relations skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Must belong to the local Electricians OR Plumbers Union, or be able to join within 30 days after starting employment at Cornell.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to wear a respirator and other employer-provided safety equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Work experience in the electrical/control field.
  • Formal training beyond high school.
  • Experience with computers.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Journeyperson Control Technician in installing and troubleshooting pneumatic and direct digital building management systems.
  • Assist Journeyperson Control Technician in installing and troubleshooting electronic HVAC temperature controls within university facilities.
  • Gain knowledge and experience during the training period.
  • Maintain a safe work environment.
  • Wear respirator and other employer-provided safety and PPE.
  • Ascend and descend heights, climb stairs and ladders, and move easily in confined spaces.
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
