Control Systems & Automation Engineer

NSC Global•Hillsboro, OR

About The Position

NSC Global is seeking a Control Systems & Automation Engineer to support site-level industrial automation and control infrastructure. This role requires 100% on-site presence to work directly with manufacturing control cabinets, PLCs, DCS panels, SCADA systems, and production-floor process equipment. The engineer will commission hardware, test safety interlocks, rationalize alarms, and calibrate field instruments in regulated, access-controlled environments, including GMP manufacturing areas. The role includes hands-on support and maintenance of control systems and instrumentation, configuration and troubleshooting across industrial vendor platforms, and maintenance of plant Operational Technology (OT) network communications. The engineer must follow site access protocols and GMP change-control procedures for safety-critical modifications, and participate in HAZOP/PSM evaluations. Remote work is not applicable; the position requires physical access to factory-floor equipment and the ability to meet site security and badging requirements.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with industrial control platforms such as Siemens PCS7, Rockwell ControlLogix, ABB System 800xA, or Honeywell Experion.
  • Expertise in IEC 61131-3 programming standards, including Ladder Diagram, Function Block Diagram, Sequential Function Chart, and Structured Text.
  • Strong working knowledge of physical measurement and calibration for flow, temperature, pressure, and level instruments.
  • Experience with alarm management standards EEMUA 191 and/or ISA-18.2, and functional safety/Safety Integrity Levels (IEC 61511, SIL).
  • Familiarity with industrial fieldbus and Ethernet protocols, including PROFIBUS, PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, OPC-UA, and Modbus.
  • Understanding of HAZOP participation, Process Safety Management (PSM) fundamentals, and GMP change-control protocols.
  • Ability to physically inspect, test, and troubleshoot cabinets, panels, and equipment on the factory floor.
  • Ability to meet strict site security clearances and badging requirements for regulated manufacturing zones, such as GMP areas.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct hands-on inspection, commissioning, and maintenance of physical control cabinets, DCS panels, PLCs, and field devices.
  • Program, configure, and troubleshoot DCS, SCADA, and PLC systems across major industrial vendor platforms.
  • Perform in-situ calibration and maintenance of process instrumentation measuring flow, temperature, pressure, and level.
  • Execute safety interlock testing, implement alarm management standards, and participate in functional safety assessments.
  • Support, configure, and maintain Operational Technology (OT) network communications across the plant environment.
  • Follow strict site access protocols and GMP change-control procedures for safety-critical system modifications.
  • Participate in HAZOP/PSM evaluations.
