About The Position

Veolia is seeking a Control Automation Engineer to design, implement, program, and maintain facility automated control systems. The engineer will serve as the technical subject matter expert for ABB 800xA Distributed Control Systems (DCS), PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and industrial networks. The role supports efficient, safe, and reliable manufacturing processes, provides rapid troubleshooting to minimize production downtime, and drives continuous improvement while integrating modern automation standards. The position works across operations, maintenance, IT, engineering, and capital project teams. It includes maintaining automation infrastructure, supporting equipment installations and process upgrades, keeping technical documentation accurate, and ensuring control designs comply with applicable safety standards and company policies. Work takes place in a manufacturing environment and may involve noise, varying temperatures, and moving machinery. Occasional off-hours or on-call support may be needed for critical operations.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on industrial experience.
Demonstrated proficiency and hands-on experience programming, configuring, and troubleshooting ABB 800xA DCS systems.
Applied experience with PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA platforms in a manufacturing, continuous-process, or heavy-industrial environment.
Practical understanding and experience with Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, and OPC DA/UA industrial communication protocols.
Ability to read, interpret, and redline electrical schematics, P&ID drawings, and complex technical manuals.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including experience diagnosing root causes, reducing equipment downtime, and optimizing control loops.
Ability to work in a manufacturing environment that may include noise, varying temperatures, and moving machinery.
Ability to walk the production floor, climb stairs and ladders, and occasionally lift equipment during inspections; the stated lift amount is left as an unfilled placeholder in the posting.
Willingness to support occasional off-hours or on-call emergencies for critical continuous operations.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of OT cybersecurity concepts, including network segmentation, secure architecture, firewall configurations, and protection of industrial control systems against vulnerabilities.
Experience with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Studio 5000 or Siemens TIA Portal.
Experience leading small-to-medium capital automation projects from scoping and budget approval through FAT, SAT, and final commissioning.

Responsibilities

Provide daily technical support, diagnostics, and troubleshooting for automated production equipment, prioritizing resolution of DCS and PLC faults to minimize manufacturing downtime.
Develop, modify, configure, and optimize logic for ABB 800xA DCS systems, facility PLCs, and HMIs to support equipment installations, process upgrades, and safety improvements.
Oversee and maintain industrial communication networks and data integration architecture, supporting communication between field devices, control systems, and data collection platforms.
Read, interpret, and update electrical schematics, P&IDs, loop sheets, and technical manuals.
Develop and implement preventative maintenance procedures, backup protocols, patch management, and disaster recovery plans for critical automation infrastructure.
Collaborate with maintenance technicians, process engineers, and capital project teams to design and execute automation upgrades, support handover, and provide operator training.
Ensure automation and electrical control designs comply with industry safety standards, including OSHA and NFPA 70E, and internal company policies.
