About The Position

We have a career opportunity for a Control System Technician II (CST) to join our team! The Control Systems Technician II (CST2) applies their control system knowledge to maintain, troubleshoot and repair wastewater treatment processes at treatment plants and pumping stations. The CST2 works with all skilled trades, managers and engineers to determine root causes for malfunctioning equipment or processes and implements solutions using modern control system technology. They provide direction and mentoring to CST 1. They work with operating departments to design improvement initiatives to support process optimization and continuous improvement. This work requires the CST2 to have deep understanding of the mechanical, electrical, SCADA and physical treatment principles involved in controlling an industrial process. The CST2 must be familiar with all types of industrial control and processing equipment including electrical breakers, variable frequency drives, actuators, instruments, transmitters, motors, pumps, gearboxes, PLC’s and computer networking equipment including SCADA software, hardware and architecture. The CST2 develops new programs for Rockwell programmable logic controllers and human machine interface screens across all areas of the treatment and pumping process. Additionally, the CST2 is responsible for evaluating and optimizing control programs to achieve process systems goals defined by operating personal or managers. The CST2 works with engineers and managers to develop Asset Frameworks with the Rockwell Historian under the directions of the Control System Supervisor and the Control System Engineer. CST2 develops basic data reporting queries using OSIsoft query tools within Microsoft Excel or using other SQL reporting services. Position coordinates with Operations to perform equipment maintenance and repair. Provides technical leadership to the control system technicians, instrumentation technicians and electricians. Work schedules include fixed and rotating shifts. Shares on-call duties as needed to provide 24-hour coverage 7 days a week. Position is responsible for communicating, requesting, and applying Lock-Out-Tag-Out to equipment for repair and/or maintenance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field from an accredited university and 1 to 3 years’ experience as a Control System Technician 1, Instrumentation Technician, Electrician, Control System Analyst or Control System Technician, or;
  • 5 plus years of experience as an Control System Technician 1, Instrumentation Technician, Electrician, Control System Analyst or Control System Programmer in an industrial process environment with documented continuing education or certificates in an electrical, instrumentation or control system education program. Must have experience with Rockwell Allen Bradley PLC programming, Factory Talk SCADA software, RS logic software, OSIsoft PI Historian and Asset Frameworks, Studio 5000 designer and PlantPax or an industrial control system equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of CISCO networking infrastructure within an industrial SCADA architecture
  • Working knowledge and experience developing data reports using Standard Query Language (SQL).
  • Experience programing physical devices using standard programming languages such as ladder logic, functional block diagrams, sequential flow diagrams or instructional text.
  • Ability to write technical documents, such as Sequence of Operations or Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Must be able to find the root cause of issues and think logically about solutions.
  • Must have advanced math skills, knowledge of electrical and mechanical principles.
  • Knowledge of environmental rules, regulations, auditing, and reporting procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Documented Lock-Out-Tag-Out and Arc Flash procedure training.
  • Must have the ability to work well and communicate with customers, management, and the public.
  • Must be able to work overtime as circumstances require and share on-call responsibilities.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Indiana driver’s license.
  • Level 2 Control System Technician certification or equivalent or obtain certification within 4 years of start date through training offered by Citizens Energy Group
  • Must be a Certified RSLogix Programmer or obtain certification within 4 years of start date through training offered by Citizens Energy Group

Nice To Haves

  • Documented courses or certification in information technology networking, servers, or data storage.
  • Wastewater operator’s license of any level.
  • Knowledge of CMMS programs such as; INFOR EAM, HANSEN, MP2, and 7i.

Responsibilities

  • Research, develop, document and optimize PLC programs, data structures and SCADA networking performance to properly control wastewater systems to customers’ expectations and within regulatory and safety guidelines and laws. Works with Master Control Operators and Process Control Engineers to improve or develop new automation features within the control and SCADA system.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair wastewater treatment processing and pumping control system equipment. Research equipment operations problems and identify primary failure cause and implement corrective action. Operate various types of tools and testing equipment. Work with other skilled trades employees to troubleshoot equipment and system failures.
  • Develop basic SCADA data queries to assist with troubleshooting and optimization. Develop new SCADA data analysis and visualization tools using SCADA historian data
  • Update schematics, wiring diagrams, calibration sheets and manuals as necessary. Create Standard Operating Procedures and Theory of Operation documents.
  • Provide direction to other skilled trades to assist in troubleshooting and repair. Train and educate other employees on control systems and operation of equipment. Actively participates in the training and education of CST level 1 employees. Perform other duties as requested.
