About The Position

Alliant Energy is seeking a Control Room Operator, which may be filled at the Apprentice or Journey level depending on qualifications. This role is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all steam turbine generating units, steam generating units, auxiliary equipment, etc., in the plant for a given shift. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to read P&ID’s, operating manuals, and technical manuals
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Reading and math knowledge
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to read and comprehend RIGHT TO KNOW information
  • Basic knowledge of First Aid and CPR
  • Ability to exercise good judgment during emergencies
  • Capacity for quick, accurate decisions and speed of execution
  • Basic computer skills required

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate leadership in the area of safety, observe safety rules, policies, and practices, and encourage safe work behaviors.
  • Ensure strict adherence to corporate values and compliance with all environmental, safety, and other laws and regulations.
  • Operate control equipment to ensure safe and proper operation of boilers, turbines, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Start, operate, inspect, and shut down all steam turbine generating units, steam generating units, and associated auxiliary equipment.
  • Observe and record pressures, temperatures, and flows on all operating equipment, and check meters and gauges for normal conditions.
  • Operate switchboard and associated equipment for safe and proper operation of plant and system electrical equipment.
  • Prepare logs and reports as required.
  • Inform the Operating Crew Foreman or supervisor of any abnormal or unusual conditions.
  • Perform troubleshooting activities related to plant operating systems.
  • Assist in cleaning and housekeeping of all plant equipment and operating areas.
  • Assist in training of employees.
  • Assist in Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures to take equipment out of service and restore it to active status.
  • Perform PM and may assist with maintenance work.
  • Perform all work according to established procedures and safety practices.
  • Report to work fit for duty and free from the effects of drug and alcohol abuse.
