Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all steam turbine generating units, steam generating units, auxiliary equipment, etc., in the plant for a given shift. This role may be filled at the Apprentice or Journey level dependent upon qualifications. The Control Room Operator demonstrates leadership in safety, observes safety rules, policies, and practices, and encourages safe work behaviors. They ensure strict adherence to corporate values and compliance with all environmental, safety, and other laws and regulations. The operator is responsible for operating control equipment for boilers, turbines, and auxiliary equipment, including starting, operating, inspecting, and shutting down these units. They observe and record operational data, check meters and gauges, and operate the switchboard and associated electrical equipment. The role involves preparing logs and reports, informing supervisors of abnormal conditions, performing troubleshooting, assisting with cleaning and housekeeping, training employees, and assisting with Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures. Additionally, they may perform PM tasks and assist with maintenance work, all according to established procedures and safety practices. Reporting to work fit for duty and free from the effects of drug and alcohol abuse is mandatory. The duties listed are a general job description and may differ based on the specific plant.
