About The Position

The Control Room Operator is responsible for the safe, reliable, and compliant real-time monitoring and operation of photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage system (BESS) facilities. This includes managing assets located across multiple countries and regions, each with its own market rules, regulatory requirements, and operating environments. The Operator ensures that grid, regulatory, and contractual obligations are met through adherence to NERC Reliability Standards and ISO 9001 quality management principles, while coordinating with global stakeholders across different time zones. Recurrent Energy Power Services (REPS) Operations and Maintenance operate utility-scale solar plants and battery energy storage systems on five continents. With close to 5 GW contracted and under operations, REPS has developed recognized expertise in the field of solar plants and battery energy storage system operations. Requirements

  • A post-secondary diploma in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience in a customer/supplier service environment.
  • Strong work ethic, positive team attitude and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong situational awareness and decision-making under pressure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Available to work on a rotating schedule with 12-hour shifts, including weekends.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of PV/BESS operations would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and control multiple PV and BESS facilities in real-time through SCADA and EMS platforms, spanning different countries and grid operators worldwide. This includes but not limited to station instruments (Switches, breakers, inverters trackers, sensors, meters, and generated alarms to ensure voltage and power levels (among other metrics) are within acceptable limits.
  • Execute switching orders, dispatch instructions, and plant commands in coordination with Transmission Operators (TOs), Balancing Authorities (BAs), and Scheduling Coordinators (SCs).
  • Navigate and comply with market-specific requirements (e.g., CAISO, ERCOT, MISO, National Grid, European TSOs) while ensuring consistent operational standards globally.
  • Identify, analyze, and respond to operational events such as curtailments, outages, and derates across diverse regulatory environments.
  • Coordinate with international site teams and local field technicians during maintenance, outages, and emergencies.
  • Perform duties in compliance with NERC Reliability Standards (CIP, COM, PER, PRC, TOP, and others as applicable) for North American facilities. Support compliance with international standards and local market operator rules for facilities outside of North America.
  • Maintain situational awareness to support the reliability of the Bulk Electric System (BES) and equivalent systems worldwide.
  • Protect Critical Cyber Assets (CCAs) and follow cyber and physical security protocols under CIP standards, ensuring global applicability of best practices.
  • Participate in NERC and equivalent international training, drills, and evidence gathering for audits.
  • Adhere to established operational procedures, work instructions, and ISO 9001 quality management standards across all global facilities.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by reporting process nonconformities, identifying root causes, and suggesting corrective/preventive actions applicable worldwide.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, event logs, and evidence trails to support ISO 9001 audits and quality reviews across multiple regulatory jurisdictions.
  • Support OCC initiatives in developing standardized global operating procedures, ensuring consistency while respecting local regulations.
  • Record and report real-time events, incidents, and performance metrics in accordance with internal and external requirements, tailored to regional regulatory obligations and within our internal CMMS.
  • Interface with international stakeholders, including field technicians, grid operators, plant managers, and Scheduling Coordinators across multiple time zones.
  • Complete and submit availability and outage reports to global market operators, scheduling coordinators, and regulators in their required formats.
  • Follow all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards in daily activities.
  • Contribute to maintaining a culture of reliability, operational discipline, and compliance excellence, regardless of geographic region.
  • Assist in root cause analysis of system disturbances, outages, etc. across global operations.
  • Conduct other duties as assigned.
