About The Position

We are seeking a Control Room Operator for our Blue Creek mine in Berry, Alabama. We expect this person to be a role model for the "Warrior Way" and uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and teamwork. Mining positions may be to work various shifts, rotating schedules, weekends, and holidays as scheduled. As a control room operator, you will need to manage the mine's surface and underground monitoring and communication systems and do various tasks and roles that comply with all the relevant regulations, standards, and policies regarding mine safety, health, and environment. You will need to have strong technical skills, leadership abilities, and teamwork spirit. Requirements

  • Valid Alabama Mine Foreman Certificate.
  • Proficient in the use and maintenance of mining equipment and systems.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • High attention to safety, detail, and quality.
  • Ability to work under pressure, in challenging and dynamic environments.
  • Specialized training in mining operations or the equivalent training and experience which will provide a working knowledge of the laws, regulations, practices, and procedures concerning underground mining operations.
  • Four to five years of experience in the application of this knowledge to activities such as supervision, safety, and labor relations.
  • Active listening and problem resolution skills; data gathering, analysis, and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor CO system as required by law promptly reporting malfunctions and alarms to appropriate personnel and maintain log of same.
  • Monitor mine ventilation and fans, alarms, belt haulage systems and transfer points for problems or potential problems and notify appropriate personnel and/or deploy designated employees to affected areas.
  • Monitor mine security systems and maintain official logs and records of employees and visitors in and out of the mine.
  • Coordinate communications in mine emergency situations and notify appropriate outside agencies as necessary.
  • Receive and properly record supervisor reports and coordinate issue management between operations, maintenance, and other departments.
  • Improve on safety standards by holding safety meetings, conducting safety interactions and taking corrective action where.
  • Ensure adherence to State, Federal and Company workplace policies and standard work procedures for risk identification, risk assessment and risk control.
  • Maintain a high level of Safety performance through effective communication, monitoring, and revision of standard work procedures.
  • Identify and report safety risks, accidents, incidents, injuries, and property damage at the workplace.
  • Attend and participate in all scheduled safety meetings and training.
  • Investigate accidents and near misses with a view toward positive action, through training, equipment set-up or equipment repair and report on findings and conclusions.
  • Maintain environmental awareness amongst the workforce by holding meetings and involving the environmental department in related subjects.
  • Ensure adherence to environmental policy, work standards, management plans and regulatory obligations and requirements.
  • Integrate environmental policies, programs, and practices into all activities of the organization.
