Control Room Operator B Apprentice - Maddox Station - Hobbs, NM
About The Position
Xcel Energy has an urgent need for a Control Room Operator - B Apprentice, based at Maddox Station in Hobbs, NM! This role involves the safe operation of plant equipment, including inspection, cleaning, unit startup and shutdown, and running water tests. The employee will assist with safety procedures like lock out tag out and confined space entry. A key part of this role is active participation in hands-on, classroom, and computer-based training to successfully complete a 4-year apprentice program and qualify as a Control Room Operator B Journeyman. Travel to other locations may be required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Must have successfully passed the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Plant Operator Selection Systems (POSS) test
- Must work rotating shifts
- Must respond to overtime and call outs
- Must commit to working safely and adhere to Company safety rules including wearing a hard hat, safety footwear, protective eye wear and Proper Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Able to lift 50 pounds
- Valid driver's license
- Must be respirator qualified (Pulmonary Function Test)
- Must take Base line Audiogram
- Successfully pass the Xcel Energy screening requirements, which include a drug test, security clearance and other exams that are required by federal regulations, such as OSHA and DOT, will be performed as required
Nice To Haves
- Knowledge of equipment operation such as pumps and motor controls
- Operation and power plant/industrial operations experience desired
- One year of industrial electrical experience desired
