About The Position

Xcel Energy is seeking a Control Room Operator - B Apprentice for Maddox Station in Hobbs, NM. This role involves the safe operation and inspection of plant equipment, unit startups and shutdowns, running water tests, and assisting with safety procedures like lock out tag out and confined space entry. The apprentice will participate in hands-on, classroom, and computer-based training to successfully complete a 4-year program and qualify as a Control Room Operator B Journeyman. Travel to other locations may be required. The work environment includes exposure to energized/rotating equipment, confined spaces, vibrations, heights, noise, chemical fumes, lead, dust, and a wide range of temperatures. Employees will work on ladders, scaffolding, in elevated positions, and may handle hazardous materials. The job requires walking, climbing stairs and ladders, and working on various surfaces. Requirements

High school diploma or GED
Must have successfully passed the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Plant Operator Selection Systems (POSS) test
Must work rotating shifts
Must respond to overtime and call outs
Must commit to working safely and adhere to Company safety rules including wearing a hard hat, safety footwear, protective eye wear and Proper Protective Equipment (PPE)
Able to lift 50 pounds
Valid driver's license
Must be respirator qualified (Pulmonary Function Test)
Must take Base line Audiogram
Successfully pass the Xcel Energy screening requirements, which include a drug test, security clearance and other exams that are required by federal regulations, such as OSHA and DOT, will be performed as required

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of equipment operation such as pumps and motor controls
Power plant/industrial operations experience
One year of industrial electrical experience
