About The Position

The Control Laws People Leader - Flight Sciences is responsible for leading a team of engineers within the control law discipline. This role involves recruiting, developing, and motivating team members, as well as assigning personnel to various programs. Key responsibilities include task planning, tracking, and reporting, encompassing scope, schedule, and resource allocation. The leader will provide technical oversight of the team's deliverables, ensuring safety is paramount. Additionally, the role is responsible for developing control law requirements, including their validation and verification. Deliverables include control law architecture and gains, with a focus on preventing aeroservoelastic issues. The position also contributes to the planning and execution of flight test activities and the resolution of in-service airplane issues. Collaboration with other Flight Dynamics Group Heads is essential for the success of the Flight Dynamics department and the Flight Sciences directorate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related curriculum, or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • 10 years of broad Engineering experience.
  • 5 years in a specific technical discipline.
  • 1 year of supervisory or broad managerial responsibility.
  • Experience credit considered for related advanced degrees limited to 2 years with a Masters or 4 years with a PhD in fields applicable to this job.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

  • Group Head I: 10 years of broad Engineering experience including 5 years in a specific technical discipline. 1 year of supervisory or broad managerial responsibility.
  • Group Head II: 13 years of broad Engineering experience including 8 years in a specific technical discipline. 5 years of supervisory or broad managerial responsibility.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, select, develop, and motivate team members.
  • Assign personnel across a range of programs.
  • Perform task planning, tracking, and reporting, including scope, schedule, and resource allocation.
  • Provide technical oversight of the team and their deliverables, ensuring safety.
  • Develop control law requirements, including validation and verification.
  • Deliver control law architecture and gains, including structural notch filters as required.
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of flight test activities.
  • Resolve in-service airplane issues.
  • Collaborate with other Flight Dynamics Group Heads to ensure departmental and directorate success.
  • Develops and evaluates plans for projects and activities.
  • Assesses technical feasibility and soundness of proposed analysis, tests, or concepts.
  • Provides direct supervision of employees of similar expertise for a large project or a number of small projects.
  • Communicates performance expectations, salary administration, and conducts performance appraisals.
  • Establishes and executes objectives that support short-term goals.
  • Makes decisions independently on engineering problems and methods.
  • Represents the organization to resolve important issues and to plan and coordinate work.
  • Conducts briefings and participates in technical meetings concerning specific projects.
  • Acts as an advisor to subordinate leads or staff members.
  • Actively participates in daily operations as required to meet schedules and resolve issues.
  • May recommend modifications to operating policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
