Control Clerk

City of Syracuse•Syracuse, NY

About The Position

This is specialized clerical work involving receipt and review of input data, control and setup of input for computer processing, and review of outputs for user departments or agencies. After orientation and on-the-job training, employees independently perform routine duties under the general supervision of a Control Clerk Supervisor or another administrative superior. Work follows prescribed procedures and product-quality standards, and includes maintaining logs and reports of materials received and processed. Work is reviewed for product quality, and the position does not supervise others, though experienced employees may help train new staff. Depending on the assignment, the employee may contact users to resolve input errors, provide information, and assist with standard input forms. Review standards vary by assignment; some roles review intermediate processing results and follow up with users before final products are processed, while others check outputs for the requested type, legibility, and recipient identification. Employees may operate data-processing equipment, which can be learned on the job; prior knowledge is not required. Related work is also performed as required.
